As NVR Parent Practitioners we go into the community and deliver the Non Violent Resistance programme to parents and professionals who are struggling with controlling, challenging and/or violent behaviours from any child they care for, look after or support.
We volunteer within the community, council, schools, NHS and CAHMS settings, to provide a new parenting approach.
We offer a six to ten week parenting program lasting up to three hours per week, for up to fifteen families.
We continue to support the parent or carer after the program with monthly catch-ups, either in the setting or at SO18 Big Local Harefield Hub, with refreshments provided by ourselves.
There is a closed Facebook page which we have set up and run. It offers support and advice 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with over 240 Southampton and Hampshire NVR families supporting each other.
Attendance is also available for school or professional meetings, we will advocate or support parents through these.
…is to be able to open this PEACEFUL approach up to the whole community!
Letting parents who are not open to the system take part in this life skill, that can change not only their home lives but the schools and the community the child is part of.
Helping professionals and schools work with these children and work as a network to improve daily life for all involved and shorten a growing list of desperate parents crying out for help by:
- Persisting with their presence
- Resisting the behaviours
- Uniting as a support network
- Repairing the relationship
We can help!
What we are doing
We continuously develop our knowledge and skills by supervision and training sessions.
We go out within the community to network at SEND events and have been managing a table at the Hampshire PACE events.
We also hold presentations in the local community, informing other parents and professionals that this program is available, how it runs/works and how you can refer professionally or personally.
Also supporting professionals in presentations at Southampton university, a New forest forensic unit and at NVR UK London conferences, to name a few.
As well as visiting parents at home, to support the professionals who are working with them.
“All parents and professionals in any care/support setting should take part in this program, you will learn to change your reactions to responses and open up communication with the child you’ve lost.”
“I hated life and my child, being isolated and alone is not nice! I have continued support and an NVR family helping me along our new happy journey.”
“You have taught those parents more in the last hour than we have in a 10 week program!”
“As a carer I never thought this would help, understanding the child has built our relationship and I now know I must look after myself to look after someone else.”
